The Amazon nut offers a variety of health benefits and provides high-value ingredients for the food, supplements and cosmetics industries.Its organoleptic characteristic is a rigid and compact consistency, it has a particular scent and colour with or without the shell along with distinctive taste. As a physical-chemical characteristic, our product has a maximum humidity of 3.5%, does not contain pesticides and shows a content of 0.5% of free fatty acids, pressed as oleic acid.The Amazon nut comes from the Bertholletia excelsa, a tree of the Lecythidaceae family, native to South America in the Amazon region. These trees can reach up to 50 meters in height, among the tallest in the primary and pristine Amazon forest, the most biologically diverse type of forest. These trees play an essential role in the conservation of the primary forest ecosystem and can live for over 500 years.
The fruits of the Amazon nut tree look like coconuts and have a diameter of 10 to 15 cm. The nuts, which are the seeds, grow individually wrapped in a hard and woody shell inside the coconut. Each coconut contains up to 20 nuts. The flowering period occurs from October to December. The flowers are pollinated by the Bombus, Xylocopa, Euglossa, and the Eulaema bees, which are only present in pristine forests.
From December to March, the coconuts fall from the trees and the harvesting stage begins. The Peruvian government assigns land concessions to families of collectors or Amazon nut growers who are in charge of extracting and packing this amazing superfood. Protected by their tough bark, they are transported to the processing plant in Puerto Maldonado.
Amazon nuts regenerate naturally thanks to a rodent called “añuje” or “agoutis”, the only species capable of breaking the hard coconut that contains the nuts. These rodents consume the nuts (seeds) and bury some for times of scarce food. Some seeds germinate in an uninterrupted cycle of reproduction, with a natural regeneration process.
According to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Amazon nut forests belong to the category of Forests with High Conservation Value (HCVF), as they are areas with significant concentrations of biodiversity. They are home to rare ecosystems and species, provide basic services to nature (protection of watersheds, erosion control) and are fundamental for the basic needs of local communities. The Department of Madre de Dios in Peru has earned the title of “National Capital of Biodiversity”. Amazon Nuts S.A.C. takes environmental precautions at each stage of the process and avoids the use of synthetic agrochemicals that impacts negatively the environment.

At Amazon Nuts S.A.C. we offer a product of excellent quality thanks to the rigorous procedures that our collaborators follow, from the harvesting in the forest to the arrival of the product at our plant and during the cleaning, peeling, selection and packaging stages. Cleaning is carried out in a closed circuit with controlled temperature, pressure and time, preventing any contamination during the process.
We combine automated technology with artisanal methods in the drying and shelling of the nuts. We excel in the industry by celebrating and maintaining the ancestral knowledge and know-how cherished among the Amazon nut community with which we work closely. Such knowledge, preserved over generations, allows us to obtain a unique flavour, colour and shape.
We offer shelled, whole, and selected nuts by size: large, medium, small and midget; vacuum packed in special transparent polyethylene bags, arranged in cardboard boxes of 44 pounds or 20 kg, with a labeling that describes the origin of the product, gross and net weight, size, quantity, brand and other specifications as required.
The Peruvian Amazon nut has a shelf life of 12 months after proper packaging. Our experience in the processing of nuts combines both, automated and traditional artisanal handling practices which translates to a safe and a superior quality product that maintains its nutritional properties, flavour, texture, and colour.

Staff are highly qualified in the processing and the use of equipment, have solid knowledge of logistics and foreign trade, and operate in compliance with the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards to guarantee food safety. Our product has been validated by the FDA for entry into the United States and we serve other demanding markets such as South Korea.
With great nutritional value -in addition to selenium, the Amazon nut provides other trace minerals such as magnesium, zinc, and iron, vitamins B (Thiamine) and E, fiber, and calcium. It is a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids and fiber. A handful of Amazon nuts provides about 3 grams of fiber. They also provide energy and help lower high cholesterol.
Selenium and vitamin E in the Amazon nuts are two natural antioxidants that contribute at reducing the negative effects of free radicals. Amazonian nuts stimulate heart and brain health, regulate the thyroid gland and facilitate the delay of cellular aging.
